Owatonna boys' basketball came off their holiday break with a strong effort in a physical game with St. Michael-Albertville, winning 79-67 at OHS Thursday night.

Andrew Jackson had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Dalton Kubista led OHS with 19 points, plus grabbed nine rebounds. Jason Williamson came off the bench to score 16 points which including a couple of dunks that fired up his team and the crowd. Nolan Malo chipped in 12 points. Owatonna trailed 37-34 at the half. The Huskies play at Big Nine favorite Rochester JM Tuesday.

The junior varsity game ended with Steven Eckard banking in a three pointer at the buzzer to lift Owatonna to a 41-40 victory.

Owatonna boys' hockey lost 3-1 to Apple Valley at the Heritage tournament in Duluth. The Eagles, who beat Owatonna 8-3 in early December, scored in the first period. OHS tied it at 1-1 in the third on a tip in by John Swenson on a shot by Nate Smith. But the Eagles answered right away and added an empty net goal for the 3-1 final. The Huskies went 1-2 in the tournament. OHS hosts North St. Paul Saturday at 12PM.

NRHEG's boys' basketball team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 55-50 win over Maple River to capture the Bethaney tournament. The Panthers (8-0) were led by Chad Agrimson's 16 points. Tyler Raimann scored 15 and Oakley Baker 14. The Panther girls lost to Hastings 65-51 in the St. Olaf tournament. NRHEG wraps up play with Farmington Friday afternoon.
