Owatonna Baseball Tops No. 9 Red Wing 6-3; Softball Wins 18-1
Owatonna's baseball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 6-3 win over Red Wing on Tuesday at Dartt's Park. OHS softball rolled to an 18-1 victory on the road.
The Huskies scored three unearned runs in the fifth to go ahead 4-3, then added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to secure the win. Alec Holcomb had two RBI and pitched six innings for the win, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five. Clay Leidall got the save. Blake Westphal had two hits and scored three runs.
Each team had several errors but also had several crisp plays. Huskies first baseman Eli Havelka made an over-the-shoulder back-to-the-infield running catch into right field to end the fifth inning. Left fielder Ben Staska made a sliding catch in short left field in the seventh. Red Wing's left fielder made a diving catch to rob Brock Hanson of a hit in the fourth inning.
Ten Owatonna softball players had at least one RBI in an 18-1 victory at Red Wing on Tuesday. Braelyn Johnson homered. The Huskies (6-4) host Rochester Mayo (3-5) Thursday at 5PM at Morehouse.
Owatonna's boys lacrosse team rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Mankato 13-5. OHS boys tennis lost at Northfield 4-3. Owatonna girls track was first at a home triangular meet with Mankato West and Albert Lea. OHS boys golf finished third at a meet in Winona.
