Owatonna Baseball: Post 77 Rallies from 7-0 Deficit, VFW Pulls Away
Owatonna Post 77 American Legion baseball rallied from a 7-0 deficit to beat Sioux Falls West 10-9 at Dartt's Park. The VFW clobbered Rochester Lourdes 17-1 at Hudson Field.
Post 77 had just two base runners over the first four innings in a Thursday night game against Sioux Falls West at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park. Post 15 scored six runs in the fifth inning to amass a 7-0 lead. Owatonna scored a pair in the bottom of the fifth then had everything fall into place in the sixth.
The series of plays began with a Trey Fails run scoring single. Nick Poe added a two-out two-run double two batters later. Clay Leidall followed with an RBI double. Sam Hylle singled home a run. Alec Holcomb and Blake Westphal walked. Grant Wehseler's smash was whiffed by the short stop for a three-run error.
Defensively for Owatonna, short stop Nick Medo and third baseman Fails each made a slick play. Wehseler tossed four solid innings before tiring in the fifth. Brady Fisher and Blake Westphal each took a turn on the mound.
Post 15 from South Dakota stopped in Owatonna on their way to the Gopher Classic in the twin cities.
