#7 seed Hastings upset #2 Owatonna 3-1 to advance to the 1AAA semifinals. A Huskies comeback fell just short of forcing a fifth set. Also, the Dells Ducks beat the Blades 3-1.

VOLLEYBALL

Hastings used strong serving & good presence at the net to beat Owatonna 3-1 at the OHS gym Friday night, upsetting the #2 seed Huskies. Game scores were 25-21, 16-25, 25-18, 27-25.

Trailing 23-15 in the 4th set, Owatonna staged a furious rally. They outscored the Raiders 10-1 to pull ahead 25-24. One more point would have pushed the match to a 5th set. But Hastings scored the next three points to close out the win.

Owatonna ends its season at 19-10. The Huskies have six seniors on the varsity roster: Kaylea Ahrens, Elisabeth Buck, Danielle Copp, Allison Falken, Megan Ritter and Marandes Schultz.

Hastings will play at Faribault Thursday October 30 in the semifinals. Top seed Rochester Mayo will entertain Farmington Thursday. The winners will meet Saturday November 1st at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.

BLADES JUNIOR HOCKEY

The Steele County Blades opened up a long weekend of hockey at Four Seasons in Owatonna with a 3-1 loss to the Dells Ducks. The Blades started the scoring with a first period marker. The Ducks scored a pair in the second period and added a third goal in the third period.

Steele County hosts the Minnesota Owls Saturday at 3:00. The Ducks come back for a 1:00 face off on Sunday.
