NRHEG boys basketball rallied for a 59-50 win to advance to the 2AA south subsection final. 

SECTION 2AA BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

Panther boys basketball went on a 25-7 run to end their game with Waseca and get the 59-50 victory at Mankato East High School on Friday night. NRHEG trailed by eight with about nine minutes to go. The Panthers hit three-pointers and free throws down the stretch to win the game and advance to the subsection final.

Maple River topped WEM 60-51 in the opener Friday night.

The subsection final is Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at Minnesota State University-Mankato. Top seed Maple River (25-3) has defeated NRHEG (23-4) twice this season, 70-66 and 85-74. The game can be heard on Kat Kountry 105FM and with the free RadioPup app for your smartphone or mobile device.

In the north subsection, No. 1 seed Glencoe-Silver Lake beat Norwood Young America 59-48. No. 3 Jordan edged Lesueur-Henderson 73-70. GSL and Jordan will meet in the 8 p.m. Tuesday night game at MSU-Mankato.

The subsection winners will square off for the section title, and a trip to state, on Friday, March 6 at MSU-Mankato at 8 p.m.

JUNIOR HOCKEY

Steele County lost 3-1 at Forest Lake in the opener of their first-round best-of-three playoff series. The Lakers scored twice late in the third period to get the home victory. The Blades will host Forest Lake on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Four Season Centre in Owatonna. Steele County must win to force a third game on Sunday in Forest Lake.
