NRHEG Baseball Holds Off Medford 4-2

NRHEG senior Jack Schultz pitched two-hit ball over six innings and started a four-run sixth-inning rally as the Panthers beat the Tigers 4-2 in Medford on Monday.

Schultz and Medford freshman Willie VonRuden traded zeroes through the first five innings, though both teams had runners on base in nearly every inning. NRHEG broke through in the sixth. Schultz singled. He advanced safely to second on a double play attempt gone bad with one out. He scored on Cole Staloch's single. Braedan Routh also delivered a two-run single in the inning.

On the mound, Schultz struck out six and walked five. The Panther defense played solid, picking off an attempted stolen base and committing just one error. The Tigers rallied for two runs and left the bases loaded against NRHEG's Jake Tasker in the seventh. Medford is at Le Sueur-Henderson on Tuesday. NRHEG plays at Blooming Prairie on Thursday.

WEM topped Blooming Prairie baseball 10-6.

NRHEG softball got its first win of the season Monday, beating Medford 15-5 in six innings. Each Panther starter had a hit, according to NRHEG coach Wendy Schultz.

The Owatonna girls golf team opened its Big Nine season with a 418-423 victory at Mankato East. Marie Otterson was the meet medalist with 91 at Northlinks Golf Course. Ally Lenz shot 95 for the Huskies. Maddie Effertz carded a 113. Greta Korbel scored 119. The Huskies host Faribault on Thursday in their home opener.
