Friday, November 11, is Veterans Day. A number of institutions will recognize area veterans on Friday. The Owatonna HyVee will be offering a free breakfast to veterans and their spouses. At 8:30 Friday morning, there will be a program along with Taps and guest speakers at the Willow Creek School in Owatonna.

The flag raising will take place at 11AM Friday at the Steele County Courthouse. The American Legion will serve a lunch after the flag raising. There will also be a flag raising on Friday at 11AM at the Blooming Prairie Serviceman's Club. There will also be a meal Friday evening at the Serviceman's Club, with a social hour at 5:30 followed by the meal at 6:30PM.

Applebee's will offer veterans a free meal from 11AM to midnight. The Owatonna Dairy Queen is offering a free medium-size blizzard. The Elks Club will offer a dinner from 5-6PM on Friday.

Veterans Gary Rinhofer and Mike Pierce report that more than $16,000 was raised in the recent auction for hospitalized veterans.

On Friday, members of the VFW will be delivering packages to area veterans in nursing homes. There are about 87 veterans due to receive packages.
