Minnesota Soybean Growers Truck
This truck was at the Rice County Fair on Thursday. When I told fair visitors I owned the truck they were a little skeptical. Well, maybe a lot skeptical. Actually, I do really own a very small part of the truck. Maybe part of the decals. The truck is owned by the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council. That means that all soybean growers in Minnesota that pay into the mandatory check-off own this unique truck.
The 6 wheel drive pick-up truck was built by the Discover Channel stars Diesel Sellers brothers. They built the truck to help promote biodiesel made from soybean oil. Minnesota has used B2 and B5 for a number of years. That means petroleum diesel fuel was blended 2 or 5 percent biodiesel; This summer the blend of petroleum diesel fuel and soybean-based biodiesel goes to 30 percent biodiesel.
This Minnesota Soybean Biodiesel truck will be driven all around Minnesota this summer and fall to promote biodiesel. In the picture is Loren Manthy in the famous KDHL recliner hard at work telling fairgoers about the truck. In the picture is also Craig Buss with the Minnesota Soybean Growers. Craig said today he was going to drive the truck to Roseau Minnesota. The truck gets about 8 miles to the gallon.
