The high school spring sports season began Thursday for a number of local teams, though postponements still outnumbered the events that got in. Owatonna's boys' tennis team won their season opener at Mankato West 5-2. The Huskies have had three meets delayed. The Tigers' softball team topped JWP 9-8 in Janesville, where they have an artificial turf. The game had been scheduled for Medford.

OHS boys' and girls' track piled up more point than their competitors to win their first outdoor meet of the season at Faribault Thursday. The event had been postponed from Tuesday. Triton softball dropped a 10-0 decision to Kasson-Mantorville in Dodge Center.

Owatonna baseball and softball games were postponed Thursday, along with the girls lacrosse game and boys' and girls' golf tournaments. The Huskies' baseball game at New Ulm Friday, April 13 in canceled and won't be made up, however coach Tate Cummins says the team will play Rochester Mayo in a doubleheader in an attempt to fill out a full schedule. He is hopeful the season will open next week.

For Saturday, April 14, the OHS boys' lacrosse season opener versus Farmington is moved to Farmington, where they have artificial turf. The varsity game is scheduled for 12:30PM. The Owatonna girls hope to play at Tartan Saturday at 12:30PM after their opener against Lakeville South Thursday was nixed. Travel to those games could get tricky Saturday if the forecast holds. Fans are encouraged to check the Owatonna page at the Big Nine website for the latest sports updates.

Blooming Prairie and NRHEG softball are set to open their seasons Saturday night at the Austin dome. Each team will play games against United South Central and WEM at 7PM and 8:30PM.
