The Medford and NRHEG clay target shooting teams remain in first place in their respective conferences two weeks into the season. Owatonna slipped from second to third. All teams are eligible to compete at an all-comers tournament in Alexandria in mid-June. The top teams there will advance to the Minnesota State High School League event. The Tigers and Panthers have both qualified in the past.

Medford is led by Cole Volkmann, who is also a pitcher on the baseball team, with a 24 average out of 25 per round. Brandon Kern is at 22.25. The top Panthers are Evan Dobberstein and Chancellor Olson with 23.5 averages.

The Huskies are behind Hutchinson and New Prague in their conference. Scott Kingland is Owatonna's top shooter with a 23.5 average. Cody Bussert is at 23.25 and Dylan Meier, who also plays lacrosse, is at 23.

Blooming Prairie's trap shooting team is seventh in its nine-team conference. Karson Vigeland, who also plays baseball, is averaging 22.5. Triton, fifth in an eight-team conference, is led by Colby Dobbs with a 23.75 average. Conferences are organized by number of shooters per team, not geographically or by enrollment. Competitions are held virtually with teams shooting at their home club each week and submitting scores electronically.

The clay target championships in Alexandria run June 11-19. The MSHSL state meet is June 22 at Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
