In December 2016 I gave you an update on Greg Thomas, a cancer patient, who while dealing with the issues that cancer was causing him, worked on restoring the 150-year-old Budejovice Church/St. John’s Chapel near Montgomery. Now it is part of the Holy Redeemer Parish.

Greg Thomas has died. He started working on the church in 2012 and, even when his cancer really hit hard, continued on in his work up until the day in 2016 he was addressed by Trustee Greg Mach. Mach told Thomas the parish was grateful for the restoration work, but they had objections to a gas fireplace that was installed along with electrical service. The parish was concerned that they would have to take on the expense of insuring the property if it were completely fixed up. At that point Thomas was allowed to come into the church only to pray with an escort.

Thomas was studying to become a minister when the return of his cancer cut short his plans. He continued to share his story as a volunteer with Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge, a program for people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

No service information is available at this time.
