May is Trauma Awareness Month. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to donate blood. Red Cross reports that donors of all types are needed and that will go toward the need of collecting about 14,000 blood donations every day to meet the need of patients from trauma, emergencies or medical conditions such as cancer.

Requirements of blood donors are to be in good overall health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and in Minnesota, with their parents' consent, must be at least 16.

Remember to bring in your donor card or driver's license or two forms of identification.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities include at St. Joseph's Church, 512 S. Elm Ave, in Owatonna on Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6PM also on Friday from 8AM to 1PM.

Other opportunities include:

  • St. John's Lutheran Church, 301 Eighth Ave. N.W., Kasson on Saturday from 9AM to 3PM
  • American Legion Post 43, 112 Fifth St. N.E., Faribault on Monday, May 16, from 11:30AM to 5:30PM
  • Paradise Center for the Arts, 321 Central Ave, Faribault on Friday, May 20, from 1-7PM
  • Peace Lutheran Church, 213 Sixth Ave. S.W., Faribault on Monday, May 23, from 1-7PM

Later in the month, there will also be an opportunity at Blooming Prairie's City Center, 138 Highway S., on Wednesday, May 25, from 1-6PM and then on Friday, May 27, at Famous Dave's, 4355 W. Frontage Road, in Owatonna from 10AM to 4PM.
