The Little Brown Jug - a storied rivalry trophy between Minnesota and Michigan was brought to Owatonna. Fans of all ages, clad in all manner of maroon & gold, came out to the A T Annexstad Federated Building & to Central Park to view and get their picture taken with the trophy.

September 27 the Gophers beat Michigan 30-14 to take possession of the Little Brown Jug for only the second time in 24 years. It was the Gophers' first win against Michigan under Coach Jerry Kill and the first victory since 2005.

The origin of the jug dates to 1903 when legendary Wolverines coach Fielding H. Yost brought his team to Minnesota and was concerned the host team might taint his team's water supply. Yost instructed a student manger to purchase a jug for his team.

The teams ended in a 6-6 tie in that game. In their haste to leave Greater Northrup Field, Yost's squad left the jug behind.
