Little Big Town are nominated for their sixth consecutive Vocal Group of the Year trophy at the 2016 CMA Awards, but the country quartet has been thinking less about a potential win and more about the significance of the awards show's golden anniversary.

"I’m excited about the history that’s going to be so tangible in the show," LBT's Kimberly Schlapman recently shared with The Boot and other reporters. "We’re literally going to watch some people that we idolize and icons of our industry. It’s going to be amazing."

Little Big Town were part of the Country Music Association's celebratory "Forever Country" single and music video, which joined together iconic artists such as Dolly Parton, George Strait and Alan Jackson, among others, with some of today's big stars.

"It was such an honor to be a part of that," the group's Jimi Westbrook admits. "As a band, I know it was emotional for us to watch, and be standing amongst all that history ... It is our heritage, and it’s just unbelievable to be a part of."

On Tuesday (Nov. 1), Little Big Town announced that they will launch their own residency at the Ryman Auditorium, Little Big Town at the Mother Church, in early 2017. The six-show residency will kick off on Feb. 24, and will be the Ryman's first-ever residency.

“I got very emotional thinking about it just on the way in this morning,” Westbrook says. “I think it’s such an honor. We feel so incredibly honored to be able to represent whatever that is. We hope to do right by all this reverence.”

The 2016 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena beginning at 8PM ET on ABC.
