Today, Thursday, Nov. 26, is Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians was a meal filled with beef and fowl. In the early years, 16th century, Queen of England had a goose and the settlers chose to roast a turkey, according to wonderopolis.org.

The turkey is native to North America. Did you know that the wild turkey can fly but the domestic turkey cannot?

Also a fact, Benjamin Franklin thought the turkey would be a better national bird than the bald eagle.

Also, Thanksgiving is a roaming holiday. It is always on the fourth Thursday of November.

We should remember to keep our soldiers in our thoughts during this holiday season as they are away from family. Let's also keep the soldiers' families in our thoughts, too, as their loved ones are far away.

Here are a few more things to be thankful for. Keep in mind some are just silly.

  1. Family and friends
  2. Your team winning
  3. Each birthday
  4. Good harvest season
  5. Good neighbors
  6. Radio
  7. Falling snow
  8. Rainfall that is not too heavy
  9. Sunshine
  10. Hats, scarves and other winter wear
  11. Clear night to see the stars
  12. Coffee
  13. Four-wheel drive when you really need it
  14. A good meal
  15. Yummy dessert
  16. Leftovers

Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy some good food, laughing and time together. Travel safely.
