Temperatures barely hit 40 degrees and the wind remained strong throughout the day, but most area baseball and softball games were played as scheduled.

Blooming Prairie softball opened their season with an 8-4 win at Medford.

NRHEG softball raced away from Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 22-3. The Panthers had 15 hits and were led at the plate by Kayley Camerer and Gabby Muri. The two combined for seven hits, including three doubles and a triple, and drove in 11 runs, according to stats emailed to KRFO Radio by coach Wendy Schultz. Anna Lundberg was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits while striking out one and walking two. The Panthers play at Blooming Prairie on Tuesday.

WEM topped the NRHEG baseball squad 15-5. The Panthers jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning. Cole Staloch doubled and scored on a John Hubly sacrifice fly, according to game notes sent to KRFO Radio by coach Drew Paukert. The Buccaneers responded with an eight-run bottom of the first. Staloch and Palmer Peterson each had two hits for the Panthers. Jack Schultz took the loss. NRHEG plays at Maple River on Thursday.

Medford baseball benefited from numerous walks while beating Blooming Prairie 7-4. The Tigers earned eight walks over the first two innings, according to a Twitter post from the Medford baseball account. The Tigers play at Kenyon-Wanamingo on Tuesday. The Awesome Blossoms return to play Thursday at United South Central.

Blooming Prairie hosted a girls golf meet Monday. BP's Taylor Christianson was the medalist with a 54. NRHEG won the team score with 250.
