Justin Whisnant came ready to wow the celebrity coaches with his rendition of Cole Swindell’s hit “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey" for his Blind Audition on The Voice, and he did just that. Though Blake Shelton was not the first to turn around, he was clearly impressed with the country hopeful from the first few notes.

Coach Adam Levine commented on Whisnant’s talent first, and Shelton readily agreed, but it was Levine who spun around immediately. As Whisnant showed off his pipes and warm, smooth vocal tone, all four coaches bobbed their heads along, knowing he was something special. When the singer hit the big note at the end, though, Shelton couldn’t deny his desire to put him on Team Blake, and pressed his button to turn around, much to Levine’s dismay.

Knowing Shelton has the upper hand with most country artists, Levine tried to sway Whisnant away commenting on his sharp, non-country style and arguing that genre was not as important as valuing pure talent (not to mention throwing in a few digs at Shelton’s tattoos). In the end, though, Shelton’s Oklahoma roots and connection to the industry was too good to pass up, and Whisnant joined the “Neon Light” singer’s team.

This is the 10th season of The Voice and Shelton’s 10th as a coach. Last fall he and fellow coach Gwen Stefani struck up a romance during Season 9, and she is slated to appear as an advisor for Team Blake later in the season. Her chair from last season is currently occupied by original coach Christina Aguilera. Team Blake has seen several talented alumni over the years, including RaeLynn, the Swon Brothers and Cassadee Pope. Time will tell if Whisnant joins the ranks!
