Jennie-O Turkey has announced a recall of packages of ground turkey in a salmonella outbreak. The recall is tied to an outbreak that has resulted in 164 illnesses in 35 states including 1 death in California.

The recalled products are 1 pound packages of raw, ground Jennie-O turkey and were sold throughout the country. The more than 91,000 pounds has use-by dates of early October so shouldn't be in stores anymore. However, you should check your frig or freezer.

Hormel Foods based in Austin, which is Jennie-O's parent company said the strain has been found in 29 manufacturing plants from 19 companies.

Earlier this year a Minnesota company recalled pet food with raw turkey in it which had the same strain of salmonella.

If you should find any of the Jennie-O packages in your freezer, they should be destroyed.
