Feb. 9, 1895, marks the anniversary of the first college basketball game. The Minnesota School of Agriculture, which is now the University of Minnesota-St. Paul campus defeated Hamline College 9-3. The following year featured the first college game where it was 5 players against 5. Before that it was 7-9 players per team.

Feb. 9 also marks the 55th anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On this date in 1960, Joanne Woodward became the first to receive a star. It isn't a case of Hollywood coming to your door begging you to accept a star. You need to be famous for at least five years and have credibility in some field. If your application is accepted, you then have to come up with $30,000. Often the studios will pick up the tab. It's not cheap being a star is it?
