Owatonna finished third at the Class AA state gymnastics meet Friday at the Maturi Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota. It's the Huskies second straight third place trophy in their third consecutive appearance at the state meet. The Huskies scored 148.7. Stillwater Area captured the state title with 150.250. Lakeville North took second place with 149.7.

OHS had a strong start on the uneven bars, scoring 37.175, which proved to be the third best bars' score for the night. The Huskies had to count a couple of falls on the balance beam in their 36.525, after setting a school record in the event during last week's section meet.

Coach Tom Smith was pleased how the team regrouped to turn in strong showings on the final two events. OHS scored 37.225 on the floor exercise and closed the meet with 37.775 on the vault, the second best score for the night.

Smith spoke of seniors Erica Svenby, Grace Pick, Macy Hanson, Morgan Welker, Rebecca Olson and Taitlynn Jensen and how strong they are as leaders for the team. Olson's prep career is not quite over. She will participate on the beam, bars and vault in Saturday's individual meet at 6PM.

Freshman Lindsay Bangs, who led the Huskies in each event Friday, competes in the all around. She was fourth last year. Ali An will be on the uneven bars and floor exercise. Sydney Kretlow will vault Saturday.
