The Owatonna girls' hockey team beat Austin 7-1 Tuesday night at Riverside Arena. The Packers scored first and the game was 1-1 after the first period. The Huskies scored three times in the middle stanza, including a goal with less than three seconds remaining to leave little doubt who would win the game.

Austin scored at 4:05 on a rebound goal by Jaiden Schuster. Owatonna's Anna Herzog answered by pounding home a rebound of her own at 7:51. OHS out shot Austin 12-5 in the first.

Jamie Davison scored 1:49 into the second period on a laser shot from the right circle. Kiley Friedrichs assisted, then added a goal three minutes later, slipping it into a tight spot between the goalie and the post. Margo Achterkirch had the first of her three assists on the play. Maylynn Prokopec, who had been denied several scoring opportunities, including one where the puck went into a dislodged net, scored one that counted at 16:57 of the second.

The 4-1 lead held steady most of the third period before OHS added three goals over the final seven minutes. Prokopec, Achterkirch and Chloe Schmidt added goals for the 7-1 final. Asia Buryska got the win in goal. Owatonna out shot Austin 45-18.

The Huskies (10-4, 6-2 in Big Nine) host Mankato East Tuesday, January 9 at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. The Cougars edged the Huskies 2-1 early in the season.
