On Saturday, March 5, the Southern Research and Outreach Center in Waseca will be having Horticulture Day, according to their press release. Preregister by Friday, February 26.

The day begins with registration at 8:30AM and programs start at 9AM. The event will cost $25 and will include refreshments, lunch and handouts.

Speakers for the day include:

  • Entomology Professor Marla Spivak from the University of Minnesota. She will discuss bees and pollinator health and gardening for pollinators.
  • Hybridizer Karol Emmerich will discuss hardy daylilies new looks while talking about designing lessons she has learned building her own gardens. Emmerich is an award-winning hybridizer.
  • Johanna Olson, who is a landscape designer, talks about the upcoming nursery stock of trees, shrubs and perennials and how to highlight and work with the landscape.
  • Rice County Master Gardener Anne Sawyer, author of  Healthy Soil, Health Plants!, describes how microbes and plants relate. Sawyer will also explain how to a healthy soil will provide happy plants.
