The OHS girls wrapped up a successful road trip weekend with their win at Orono on Saturday afternoon. Margo Achterkirch put the Huskies on the board late in the first period on an unassisted goal. Shannon VanReeth added one late in the second with an assist from Jamie Davison. Orono scored early in the third to pull within 2-1. Laura Ebeling stopped 27 of 28 shots. The Huskies killed off all five penalties they took. The trip began with a 6-2 victory at Eveleth-Gilbert on Friday.

The Owatonna boys opened their season Saturday hosting No. 4A St. Paul Academy, who beat the Huskies twice last season and returns virtually the entire lineup from a team that came within one game of the state tournament. SPA won 5-1.

The Spartans struck first with a breakaway goal in the opening minute. They added a goal off of an Owatonna turnover in their zone and a power play for a 3-0 lead at the first intermission. SPA pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second and scored another power play goal midway through the third. Owatonna's Adam Rehman scored his first varsity goal at 12:07 of the third for the 5-1 final and was named the Kottke Jeweler's Diamond Player of the Game. Austin Medvec assisted on the goal.

The Huskies open Big Nine Conference play versus Rochester Mayo on Tuesday at 7:30PM at the Four Seasons Centre.
