Owatonna High School football is teaming up with local charities From the Heart and Relay for Life to raise money to fight cancer on Friday, October 9.

The Owatonna football program made the choice to raise money for local charities this year. Supporters can purchase t-shirts at any Owatonna school this week for $10.

Donations will be collected at the final home football game of the regular season when the Huskies host Rochester Century.

Proceeds will benefit families in Owatonna and Steele County facing cancer.

From the Heart is a fundraising run held each May to benefit local families battling cancer. In 2015, the event raised money for the families of Pete Kalan, Paul Grannes and Tracy Williams.

The Relay for Life is an overnight fundraising walking event. The Steele County relay is held each July at the county fairgrounds with music, food and entertainment to lead off the evening. A candle-lit path honors and remembers cancer victims. The 2015 relay raised more than $100,000 despite being cut short by severe weather. The 2016 Relay for Life will be July 15-16.

On Friday, October 2, Owatonna hosts New Prague in their homecoming game. Owatonna is 5-1. New Prague is 0-6 this season.
