There are a number of things in the offing for Habitat For Humanity of the Steele Waseca Area. The Do It Yourself workshop for kids returns on Saturday, September 16, at the Owatonna Area business Development Center. Kids up to age 17 are invited out to help build dog houses and cat towers. Hours will be 9:30AM to noon. It's an opportunity for youth to get the feel for constructing something using a hammer, screwdriver, level and more. They'll also learn how to shingle. Preregister at (507) 446-0112 or register on the Habitat For Humanity of Steele Waseca Area website.

Meanwhile the Habitat is increasing awareness by offering groups of five a chance to compete in a nail-driving competition. The time it takes the five to pound all five nails through a board is used to determine the winner. Currently the fastest time is 24.6 seconds, held by the Steele County Deputies office day shift. Contact them if your group would like to challenge for the fastest time. Check out some of the prior participants on the Habitat's Facebook Page.

The latest home being worked on has the roof trusses up and the roof will be sheeted and the garage trusses will be going up this week as well. The hope is to have the roofers in later this week. The goal is to get the new family in the house by December 31.

Coming up September 30 is the Blueprint Bash. Free food and entertainment. Contact the Habitat now to reserve your spot.
