University of Minnesota Athletic Director Resigns
According to the Associated Press, Gopher Athletic Director Norwood Teague says he is resigning after sending inappropriate text messages. University President Eric Kaler accepted the resignation effective immediately. Kaler says the resignation follows two recent incidents of sexual harassment of two university employees.
Teague stated that he had too much to drink at a recent event and "behaved badly towards nice people." He said he apologizes for his actions and is very embarrassed over the whole situation.
Teague took over the Gophers' athletics program in 2012 after spending six years at Virginia Commonwealth University. He took over for longtime athletics director Joel Maturi, who retired.
Teague made several high-profile moves during his short tenure, including the hiring of basketball coach Richard Pitino.
Assistant Athletic Director Beth Goetz has been named the Interim Director. Teague could be used in a consultant capacity for an hourly rate during the transition.
