Kiefer Sutherland will soon release a country project, and in advance of its debut, the actor is taking fans behind the scenes of the making of that album, Down in a Hole.

In the video above, Sutherland discusses the importance of music in his life and how he decided to try his hand at a record of his own. Sutherland and friend Jude Cole founded Ironworks Music, their own record label, and through his involvement, Sutherland has both given other artists their shot, but also learned from them; sound engineer Florian Ammon recalls that Sutherland essentially "waited his turn" until the time was right to do a record of his own, "watch[ing] silently on the sidelines" when they worked with other people.

"It was a really, really special experience," Sutherland says of making his upcoming disc, "and the fact that I got to do it with my best friend and some other incredibly close, dear friends is the gift of a lifetime."

Press play below to learn more about Down in a Hole. Sutherland recently released the project's first single, "Not Enough Whiskey." The song's music video was entirely financed by Sutherland, in an effort to show just how serious he is about his new country career.

“It’s been done before and, on some levels, not very well,” Sutherland says. “A lot of actors make records but won’t tour to support them or make videos, and it ends up not being serious. I felt strongly that this was something I wanted to do.”

“Not Enough Whiskey” is available on iTunes now, and Down in a Hole is set for release this summer. Sutherland will also be touring in support of the record; dates are available on KieferSutherlandMusic.com.
