Girls Hockey: OHS at Wingers Thursday, KRFO AM 1390
The Huskies play at Red Wing Thursday at 7:30. Radio coverage can be heard on AM 1390 KRFO and the FREE RadioPup app. Each team is 1-0.
Red Wing enters the Big Nine Conference this season after winning the Missota Conference title in the last season of it's existence and a third place finish at the state Class A tournament. The Wingers graduated a pair of Division 1 players; Nicole Schammel and Emily Stegora, who are at Minnesota State-Mankato. But Red Wing brings back UMD-committed forward Reagan Haley, who had over 80 points last season. The Wingers also bring back their top two goalies. Red Wing blanked Mankato East last week 7-0.
Red Wing beat Owatonna last season 5-2. The game was tied 2-2 after the second period.
Owatonna lost its top three scorers from last season to graduation: Abby Sawyer, Payton Noble and Paige Radue. Goalie Jessica Cole also was a senior last season.
Coach Tim Hunst comments on the first two weeks of practice and the season outlook:
The Huskies won their season opener 4-1 on Saturday. OHS got goals from Rilee Schmidt, Jessica VonRuden, Shannon VanReeth and Margo Achterkirch. Kacy Borwege made 12 saves for the win.
Thursday's game at 7:30 can be heard on KRFO AM 1390, and with the FREE RadioPup app.
