Friday May 8 Prep Roundup; Saturday Schedule
Owatonna baseball played one game and completed another one on Friday. OHS softball, boys track, boys golf and boys tennis were all in action as well.
The Huskies baseball team played their regularly scheduled game against St. Cloud Apollo first and won 9-4. Next up they hosted Mankato West to complete the game that was suspended by rain on Thursday. The Scarlets had put two on the board Thursday, and added 10 more Friday to get a 12-0, six-inning Big Nine Conference win. Right-handed senior Ryan Schlichte, who led the Mankato West football team to a state championship last fall, threw the complete game and struck out 11 Husky batters. Owatonna hosts Austin in a doubleheader Tuesday.
OHS softball got off to a great start against Farmington at Morehouse Park. After a 1-2-3 top of the first, Owatonna's top two batters reached and scored. But Owatonna left the bases loaded in the first and stranded 10 for the game. Farmington came back for a 7-2 victory. The Huskies go to Austin on Tuesday.
Owatonna boys track hosted a make-up meet Friday. Owatonna beat Austin and Winona. Jacob Johnson won both hurdle events and the 200-meter dash. OHS travels to Faribault on Tuesday.
The Huskies boys golf team earned a triangular win at Mankato, thanks to a tiebreaker over the host Scarlets. Rochester JM finished third.
OHS boys tennis lost 7-0 at Rochester Mayo on Friday. The Big Nine Conference meet is Saturday in Rochester. The section 1AA team tournament begins on Tuesday.
