The #4 Class 3A ranked Faribault Falcons rolled past the #10 ranked Northfield Raiders 12-0 in five innings today in Northfield.  The Falcons scored three runs in the first inning to set the tone offensively.  Junior pitcher McKayla Armbruster continued her dominance in the pitching circle allowing two hits, no walks and striking out 12 Northfield batters.

Originally the two teams were supposed to play a doubleheader Tuesday in Faribault but a solo game was played in Northfield today.  Just the first game of a doubleheader would have counted toward the conference anyway.  In the first inning after  a ground out for Faribault, Armbruster singled, senior Bre Bresnahan hit a RBI double.  Following a strikeout, junior catcher Abby Van Ryn brought Bresnahan home with a double.  That was followed by a RBI single by sophomore right fielder Abby Lake and the Falcons were in business.

Bresnahan finished the five inning game with three doubles and 2 RBI in four trips to the plate.  Van Ryn was just a triple shy of the cycle with a double, single and home run for 5 RBI.  Lake had 3 hits and a RBI.  Junior second baseman Lauren O'Neil continued to be productive in the number nine spot in the order with a single, walk and a couple runs scored.

Northfield's only hits off Armbruster were a lead-off bunt in the bottom of the first by freshman Payton Fox and a one out double in the bottom of the third by sophomore Emma Johnson.

The Raiders tried to keep the Falcons off balance at the plate by throwing two pitchers.  Junior Caroline Pritchard started the game, going the first four innings and sophomore Anne Fossum finished the game.

It didn't seem to matter who was in the pitching circle.  In addition to the three run first inning Faribault scored 4 runs in the second, 1 run in the third and 3 in the fifth.

All nine Falcons batted in the second inning.  There was a ground out to start the second.  Then Lauren O'Neil clubbed a single.  There was a strikeout for the second out and then the Falcon Talon's Row of Armbruster, Bresnahan, Swanson and Van Ryn came up.  Armbruster siingled, Bresnahan collected another double, senior Cassie Swanson slammed a double and Van Ryn had a single.  Lake picked up another single before the ninth person to bat in the inning struck out.

In the fifth inning O'Neil walked, Ali Schak walked, Armbruster doubled to pick up her third RBI of the game.  Bresnahan and Swanson were retired.  Van Ryn hit a two run homer and seven batters came to the plate.

Faribault is 9-0 in the Big Nine, 11-1 overall and Northfield dropped to 5-3 in league play and 6-4 overall.

The Falcons on Friday travel to Caswell Park in North Mankato to play in a tournament that features teams from the section they are in.  Talk about loaded.  #2 ranked Waconia, #4 rated Faribault, #5 ranked Mankato West, #6 rated Mankato East and New Ulm received votes.  That's right 5 of the 8 teams are in the state rankings.

Other teams include Worthington, Hutchinson and Marshall.
