The Faribault Lakers had a successful home opener Friday defeating Owatonna 14-9 and then fell 5-2 to New Prague on the road today.  Matt Lane pitched 6 1/3 innings striking out 7 and walking one while allowing 7 hits.  Lane gave up 4 runs, 3 earned. threw 88 pitches, 61 for strikes.  Nathan Sproles got the win for the Orioles going 7 innings, throwing 109 pitches, 68 for strikes, striking out 7 and walking 3 while allowing 3 hits.

Faribault had four hits in the game from four different players.  Derek Ritter and Mitch Johnson had the RBI hits for the Lakers.  Matt Lane and Adam Kline collected the other hits.  New Prague took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and Faribault answered in the top of the third inning.  The Orioles then scored again in the bottom of the third to take the lead and Faribault answered in the top of the fifth to tie the game at two runs.  New Prague added two runs in the sixth and a run in the eighth to seal the victory.

Justin Novak was the only Oriole with more than one hit.  Aaron Kes led New Prague with two RBI, Jake Klein, Austin Bachman and Jake Mader each had an RBI also.

In the Lakers win on Friday former Owatonna Aces player Derek Ritter collected three hits against  them and had a 4 RBI night.  Ritter also had a brief stint on the mound in the slugfest.

Ritter, Joe Grote and Jake Stocker all had doubles and Stocker and Grote joined Ritter with multiple hits.

Owatonna pitchers combined to walk 19 Faribault batters and Laker pitchers walked 13 Aces.  Clay Leidall started the game for the Aces going 3 2/3 innings, throwing 122 pitches, 54 for strikes with 10 walks, 4 strikeouts and 6 hits.  9 Laker runs scored with 4 earned.

Faribault scored in every inning except the 7th.  A 4 run fourth inning , 2 run fifth and 2 run 6th keyed the victory.

The Aces had 5 hits and 3 errors and Lakers 9 hits and 4 errors.

Egan Bonde was the winning pitcher going the first 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned, struck out 7 and walked 4 while throwing 118 pitches, 57 strikes.

The Lakers host Prior Lake Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the new handicapped accessible Bell Field.
