A disaster recovery center is now open in Waseca. This was established to help renters, homeowners and businesses that suffered damage during the September floods.

It's located in the City of Waseca Public Safety Building on South State Street. Hours will be weekdays 8AM to 7PM, Saturdays 8AM to 5PM and Sundays from noon to 5PM.

The first step is to get registered by going to the DisasterAssistance website. You may also use the FEMA App or call (800) 621-3362. If you are hard of hearing or have a speech disability, you may call (800) 462-7585.

After registering, complete and return the no-obligation SBA loan application, if one is offered. There is no charge to apply for the loan and if approved, no obligation to accept it exists. FEMA grants do not have to be repaid. The deadline for applying for the loans is January 3, 2017.

The Recovery Center in Waseca will have representatives from FEMA, the Homeland Security Emergency Management division of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Small business Administration and other agencies. They will be able to answer questions and explain the types of assistance that is available.

A Disaster Recovery Center will be opening for Steele County residents on Wednesday. It will be located in the old Cedarview Nursing Home. They will have the same hours as the Waseca Recovery Center.
