CulturFest Committee Announces “The Amazing CultuRace” for 2014. The event is Saturday September 27. Registration deadline is August 28.

The CulturFest committee is pleased to announce a new activity for this year’s event scheduled for Saturday, September 27th at Wilson Elementary School in Owatonna (325 Meadow Lane) the CultuRace will kick off at 7:00 am, with CulturFest running from 10:30 am until 4:30 pm.  “The Amazing CultuRace is an event modeled after the popular television show, “The Amazing Race” on CBS. Teams will race on bicycles along a pre-determined route completing seven different cultural challenges at seven pit-stops. Challenges vary by design to include both physical and mental tasks that will require team members to work together quickly and efficiently. This heart racing and adventurous competition will begin and end at Wilson Elementary. “We’re excited to offer this new activity for 2014! The Amazing CultuRace is a wonderful opportunity for friends or families to work together as a team, test their cultural IQ, and just have a lot of fun in the process.” said CultuRace Coordinator, Lisa Thorson.  If you are interested in competing in this event please visit the CulturFest website for registration and sponsorship information at: www.culturfest.org. “The race is open for ten teams of two people – each member must be 16 years or older, however registration will only be open until August 28th” noted Amanda Gislason, CultuRace Coordinator.

“This new addition to the festival is exciting for us in many ways; it brings in a new group of participants & planners, each of the stop points will have a connection to a country – so this will provide a fun way to learn, it also expands the festival outside of just the festival grounds”

-Susanne Schroeder, CulturFest Chair.

Mike Jensen, Marketing Coordinator for the festival also commented:

“We have had a connection with the CBS Show “The Amazing Race” in that we hosted Margie & Luke, one of the teams from the show back in 2009 – so it is fun to see it come full circle as we are now hosting our own race”.

Amanda commented “We can’t give away a million dollars like the TV show; but we do have some great prizes for the winners. First Placewill receive $400, second - $300 and third will get $200.”

CulturFest is a FREE, full day, festival filled with a large variety of entertainment opportunities for you to enjoy. The main stage runs the full day of the festival and is filled with a variety of professional performers from ethnic dancers, bands, vocalists, and MUCH more. Demonstrators exhibit many multicultural arts and crafts from their home countries, along with historic demonstrations and more.  CulturFest ties back to most countries – so whether you come fromGermany,Russia,Brazil,Mexicoor any other country we more than likely have an activity representative of that region. Another popular feature of the day is the Children’s Passport Program. Over 20 children's activity stations are set up as the children "take a trip around the world" while learning about various countries through hands-on activities and/or crafts. The student's passport gets stamped once they have finished a countries activity and is a keepsake for them to take home. Ethnic foods and vendors round out this educational and fun filled day that is suited to anyone, young or old.
