Country on the River ended the wait to reveal its first headliner on Tuesday morning, announcing that country star Chris Stapleton will take the stage for its eighth annual festival.

Stapleton has been one of the hottest names in country music over the past year, starting with three shocking wins at the 2015 Country Music Association Awards. He has since won five Academy of Country Music awards, two Grammys and, most recently, two more CMA Awards earlier this month.

Author of hits including "Fire Away" and "Nobody to Blame," Stapleton has twice been named the CMA's Male Vocalist of the Year and once at the ACMs. His breakthrough album, Traveller, was named country music's best album at the ACM Awards, CMA Awards, Billboard Music Awards and the Grammys.

Stapleton is the first of three headliners who will take the stage at Country on the River, which is Aug. 3-5, 2017, in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Kid Rock, Lee Brice and Billy Currington headlined the 2016 festival.
