So many folks have that first date for Minnesota's Firearms Deer Season circled on their calendar. It's a bit over a week away; November 3.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has provided some deer facts to share with you. There are almost a half million firearms deer hunters in Minnesota. Minnesota hunters fare quite well as last year 35% of Minnesota firearm hunters harvested a deer. Your best chances are early in the season as 70% of the deer harvest during the firearms season take place the first 3 or 4 days of the hunt.

As far as big deer go, the largest white-tailed deer recorded in Minnesota was a 500 pound buck.

Since 2011 DNR certified instructors have provided firearms safety training to 177,453 students. And of course, practice safety. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded by keeping your finger off the trigger; always control the muzzle of your firearm; and be sure of your target and what is beyond.

Have a safe and successful deer hunt.
