Perhaps the weather actually helped this past weekends Young Life Cake Auction. Attendance was quite good and many stayed for the whole event. Perhaps because travel outside of town was not recommended. Either way it was a record breaker with some $80,000 being raised for Young Life. Last years auction raised around $70,000. I can crack an egg open and that's pretty much it when it comes to baking. As a result I usually walk around shaking my heads and muttering "how did they do that" when at the cake auction.Let's take a look at some of the cakes.

    Pretty Flowers

Look how colorful this Perfect Day Cake is. It really looks real and take a look at the basket part of the cake.

    The Hat Chic

I picked this one because if makes me ask "how did you do this?" Look at the texture. I haven't a clue as to how they do it.

    The Cash Cake

This Community Bank Owatonna cake was baked by Perfect Day cakes. I'm guessing the money part was done with a computer somehow? But notice the curled bill to the left and take note of the wet bill on the top. Quite a conversation piece.

You had to look closely as this cake. See how closely it matches the picture on the box.

    Berry Cake

I'm afraid my picture doesn't do justice to this cake. On top are what's supposed to be blackberries complete with the bumps I'm just guessing that maybe the cake mixture went into a mold with bumps and then was gentley taken out and placed on top of the cake.
