The Bikers of Blooming Prairie recently held their annual B. O. B. Ride. As a result they raised a record of $14,568 for the Steele County Toys for Tots program.

Pictured above are Harvey Farr who serves as Bikers of Blooming Ride Coordinator along with Nancy Livesay who is Treasurer of Steele County Toys for Tots, Don Overlie the Steele County Toys for Tots Assistant Coordinator and Jerry Shore who is Steele County Toys for Tots Coordinator.

Jerry was at the Steele County Free Fair and he provided us with a brief history of the Toys for Tots program in Steele County. He explained that it started 45 years ago with a couple that helped a few needy families. They approached Jerry about what to do for toys. Shore helped out and that first year around 50 kids were served. Since then it's peaked as high as around 1,700 children benefiting from the Toys for Tots program in Steele County.

The U.S. Marine Corp Reserve Toys for tots program began in 1947.
