A number of area fire departments are among a fairly long list of departments that will receive grants from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants program.

Communities will need to provide a 50% match to their grant.

There are restrictions as to what the money can be used for. For example money can be used for personal safety, fire equipment, communications, etc. It cannot be used for buildings, vehicle purchases or used equipment. More information can be found at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources web site.

Grant recipients are as follows:

Mantorville Fire Department $1,200

Clarks Grove Fire Department $1,700

Ellendale Fire Department $2,500

Owatonna Fire Department $5,000

Waseca Rural Fire Department $1,400

In 2018, 159 local fire departments across Minnesota will receive $435,000 in matching grants.
