Amateur Radio Field Day will take place the weekend of June 25 and June 26. The local Owatonna Steele County Amateur Radio group will be setting up near the Willow Creek School in Owatonna. They'll be broadcasting from 1PM Saturday and straight through for 24 hours until 1PM Sunday. The public is invited to stop by and learn about the world of amateur radio.

The Viking Amateur Radio Society will be taking part as well. They will be set up and broadcasting at the Waseca County Fairgrounds.

The purpose of the field day is to work as many stations as possible on more of the amateur bands. Another goal is to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.

Anyone can become a licensed Amateur Radio operator. There are more than 725,000 licensed hams in the United States.

You can learn more by going to the OSCAR website or the Viking Amateur Radio Society's Facebook page.
