Steele County Fair time is quickly approaching. The biggest county fair in the state runs August 15-20. The daily schedule of events was released over the weekend.

I looked through the daily events schedule and tried to find something each day that is only happening once during the week. Each grandstand show is unique, including a first-time event for Steele County with the high-flying ATV show on Tuesday, so I stayed away from those for this list.

To keep this from being a shameless plug for you to spend all day, everyday at the KRFO stage, I only included one event for our stage on the list. However, I will say that from watermelon seed spitting to ladies nail driving to great entertainment to live interviews, there are many reasons to stop by and visit us. The KRFO stage is between the 4-H building and the auto museum, just north of the Four Seasons Centre.

These events barely scratch the surface of what you will find at the fair. But it you make it to all of these, you will encounter many of the other attractions too.

  • Tues., Aug. 15: Fabulous Love Handles

The local favorites take the United Prairie Bank stage at 8PM on the opening night of the fair.

  • Wed., Aug. 16: Homemade Beer Judging

I usually see a big group enjoying this task. I might want to add my name to the waiting list. Judging commences at 6PM Wednesday in the fine arts building.

  • Thurs., Aug. 17: OHS Robotics Demonstration

This very popular activity at the high school shows just how smart and talented these students are. This is scheduled for 2:15PM at the KRFO stage. Show your support for the Rebel Alliance.

  • Fri., Aug. 18: Vikings Cheerleaders

It's football season. Get your picture with Vikings cheerleaders from 6-8PM on the fairgrounds.

  • Sat., Aug. 19: Strive Wellness Run

Granted, this event doesn't even happen on the fairgrounds, but is a great tradition. It raises money for the Rotary Club and removes some guilt from eating fair food for those runners and walkers. The kids have a couple of races too.

  • Sun., Aug. 20: OHS Football Rally

The Owatonna High School football player and cheerleader introduction is the final scheduled activity at the fair at 8:30PM Sunday on the UPB stage.
