4 Famous People From Owatonna
Last year I found some famous people from Owatonna, and people suggested a few celebrities I missed. They include musicians, television journalists and one businessman with a town that he named after himself.
Kevin Skaff was born in Owatonna, according to famousbirthdays.com. He is the lead guitarist and backup vocalist for A Day To Remember, a pop rock/post-hardcore rock band that formed in 2003. Skaff joined in 2013 when he was in Florida.
Don Laughlin is a casino and hotel owner in Laughlin, Nevada. He is from rural Owatonna. He moved to Las Vegas and went to a card and dice dealers school. After he sold his first business, Laughlin bought Tri-State land and later named it after himself.
He built a casino and hotel in 1972 and the property now includes a theater and bowling alley. There is also the USS Riverside tour boats.
Bill Redeker was in the Night Crawlers in 1967 with Carleton College classmates Marc Reigel and Mark Headington, along with fellow Owatonnans Mike Jines and Barry Gillespie. They reached No. 1 in Chicago with "You Say."
Redeker won six Emmys as a journalist with ABC and CBS and reported from Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
He is now a Realtor in Utah.
Sean Tillman was born in Marshall, Minn., and moved to Owatonna with his family when he was 9. He later moved to Minneapolis and became known as Sean Na Na and Har Mar Superstar, which is taken from a mall in the Minneapolis area. He also has a few other aliases.
Along with singing, Tillman has written songs for pop stars Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Osbourne, according to imdb.com. Plus he has been in the movies Starsky and Hutch, Whip It and Pitch Perfect.
Tillman returned to Owatonna recently with Macaulay Culkin to celebrate Christmas with family.
